d. Adverbial Clause
Adverbial clause is a dependent clause which functions as an adverb and provides information about verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs in independent clauses in a complex sentence.
Example of a sentence adverbial clause:
When he didn't come last night, he notified by phone. (When he didn't show up last night, he alerted me by phone.)
Shortening the adverbial clause (reduced adverbial clause) can be done provided that there is only one subject in the complex sentence.
Example Sentence Reduced Adverbial Clause:
When not coming last night, he was notified by phone. (When he didn't show up last night, he alerted me by phone.)
6. Common Prepositions
Common prepositions are the number of prepositions used most often in the English language. This English preposition may be combined with a noun to form a noun phrase (noun + preposition +…), with an adjective to form an adjective phrase (adjective + preposition +…), or with a verb to form a phrasal verb (verb + preposition).
